Weightlifting Boost From Historical Entry

Keep a keen eye out for the future of Helena Wong at the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi. She is the first female weightlifter representing Singapore, and thus created history yesterday for participating. Having had less than a year of training, this Phys Ed undergraduate has won runner-up in a sports meet in the UK and did very well for her first international foray.

She lifted 62kg in the Snatch, and 80kg in the Clean & Jerk for a total of 142kg. She emerged eighth out of 11 entrants. She also secured a personal best of 14kg over her best total (set in June 2010). Congratulations, Helena!
