Letting Them Beat You Occasionally: A Coach's Journey

He has breathed the rarefied air of Kona, Hawaii and raced with the best of the best. He is a serious age-grouper, and being on the podium was almost a habit. On his second attempt at Ironman, he qualified (and completed) in the World Championships. He also completed the world championships for the Olympic Distance triathlon one week before Kona. He has won twice the Open-water Swim in the Masters’ category in Singapore in 2006 and 2007. One fateful, weather-influenced day he lost by the narrowest of margins the first-place spot in the Olympic-distance triathlon, after the judges unfairly dismissed the results of the swim leg (where he emerged from the water first). Australian, CRAIG HOLLAND lives with these personal disappointments, and converts them to lessons for his students. Read the interview of how lessons learnt from triathlons can be taught to international executives leading corporations to their best performances.
